In January 2014 Carbon Masters India developed and launched Carbonlites, India's very first compressed biomethane brand for commercial cooking made using the organic fraction of MSW as the feedstock.
Carbonlites CBG is a carbon neutral fuel made from the anaerobic digestion of, hotel food waste. It displaces diesel for back up electricity generation CNG in transport and LPG for commercial cooking saving both costs and carbon emissions.
The digestate slurry from the process is converted to a carbon enriched organic fertiliser also branded as Carbonlites which is used by farmers to put carbon back in the soil and reduce their use of chemical fertilisers further saving carbon emissions.
The company currently operates 8 CBG plants across three states in southern India and is currently building 8 more CBG plants across Bangalore to process the cities wet waste.
